worktops are sanding back to remove the existing coating then finished with oil or varnish.
On average we find its 3 days if varnished and potentailly 5 days if oiled. The first day is stripping the surface of the existing coating, then a coat of varnish or oil is applied each day, sometimes two if good conditions and quick drying product is used.
We find this quicker than oil, with sometimes a varnish drying in 15 minutes. we generally apply 3 coats of varnish.
some people prefer the look of oil, downside last job i did was a premium oil and it needed 5 coats despite saying it only needs 2
maintain oil by applying a new coat every 6-12 months.
varnished surfaces generally last longer without maintenance.
